Staying at the Deluxe Room of the Riverside Majestic Hotel Astana Wing

The Riverside Majestic Hotel Astana Wing is the latest hotel addition in Kuching, and this is the very first Kuching hotel I am reviewing since I re-configured my personal blog.

I agree, the name is quite a handful to say, but let’s not make the name justify the hotel review.

The Riverside Majestic Hotel Astana Wing has just been opened for a couple of month at the time of this review.

In fact, my stay at the Riverside Majestic Hotel Astana Wing was sponsored by the hotel itself, but I did buy another room for my sisters.

Despite that, don’t worry. I was told to just write honestly and there is no part of this review that was influenced by them (read my disclosure policy). – I believe people read my blog for my honestly, so I intend to keep it that way.

CHECK IN THE RIVERSIDE MAJESTIC HOTEL ASTANA WING

On the day I decided to stay at the Riverside Majestic Hotel Astana Wing, my wife was working.

I therefore scheduled check-in at 5PM, after working hours. The minimalist lobby was refreshing, and check-in was a breeze.

I decided to bring along my sisters for this ‘stay-cation’. As mentioned before, unlike my room, my sisters Deluxe room were paid by myself in full.

Both the Deluxe Rooms I had for this trip came with the following facilities:

  • Connecting rooms available
  • In-room safe
  • Iron & ironing board
  • Universal electrical sockets
  • Tea/coffee making facilities and minibar
  • IDD Telephone
  • Free in-room high speed WiFi internet connection
  • 40″ LCD TV with news and entertainment channels
  • Ensuite bathroom with rain shower, exclusive amenities, bidet & hair dryer
  • Soft bathrobes, slippers, and toiletries
Coffee and tea making facilities, plus a minibar at the Deluxe Room.

Two things stand out most in the Riverside Majestic Hotel Astana Wing – the fantastic view outside, and the the super soft towels.  I swear, the towels were so soft, it is the softest towels I’ve ever used in a hotel.

THE STAY

Staying in the Riverside Majestic Hotel Astana Wing was interesting because it was the first time I stayed in Kuching with my two sisters and my 3-year old daughter.

My daughter loved how soft the mattress was. at the RMH Astana Wing.

It felt weird because my house was just 15 minutes away by car, and I was living out of a suitcase.

Being a local, there wasn’t much we hadn’t seen in Kuching so we were more than happy to just enjoy the amazing view of the city from the 10th floor, and the comfortable bed the Riverside Majestic Hotel Astana Wing had to offer.

After checking-in, we took the trouble to visit the Riverside Majestic Shopping Complex. The shopping complex is just below the hotel so it was very convenient. We bought a lot of snacks because the plan was to stay indoors in the hotel.

Armed with enough snacks for the whole three days, we stayed in the hotel while making full use of the pool and finally calling it a day by sleeping in the comfortable beds prepared by the Riverside Majestic Hotel Astana Wing.

The 32-inch flat screen TV.

We also stayed up late to catch the World Cup on the 32-inch flat screen TV in our respective rooms. I think there was about 5 to 15 channels available.

Other facilities in-house facilities available during our stay were:

  • Room service
  • A gym
  • Squash and tennis court
  • Executive Lounge
  • Swimming pool (in Putri Wing)

RMH ASTANA WING BREAKFAST BUFFET

The international breakfast buffet for the Riverside Majestic Hotel Astana Wing is served at the Riverside Majestic Hotel Putri Wing at the time. The Putri Wing is the older side of the hotel and it is connected to the Astana Wing via an internal bridge.

The breakfast buffet at the Putri Wing isn’t that huge. It is adequate and has everything from multiple types of cereal, fruits, cakes, main dishes and juices.

The highlight was the Laksa Sarawak stall and the wonderful view offered by the restaurant. I also liked the timing for the breakfast buffet, starting at 6.30AM until 10.30AM.

Once the Sape Restaurant is ready, guest from the Riverside Majestic Hotel Astana Wing would have their breakfast buffet served there instead.

This would definitely add convenience as I personally didn’t like walking to the Putri Wing for breakfast although it wasn’t that far.

THE ASTANA WING SKY LOUNGE

One of the best things about the Riverside Majestic Hotel Astana Wing is the Sky Lounge.

As I mentioned in my blog about Kuching, it is the highest public place to see an aerial view of Kuching City.

View of Kuching City from the Sky Lounge

The view is stunning and unhindered by any glass.  It is the best place in Kuching to relax and unwind with such a majestic view of Kuching’s wonderful sunset.

With eight dedicated LCD TV’s, the Sky Lounge is also one of the best places to watch the tournament in Kuching.

FINAL THOUGHTS

There’s a lot to love about the Riverside Majestic Hotel Astana Wing. It’s new, it’s clean and it provides a fantastic view of Kuching City.

My three day stay at the hotel somewhat showed that the hotel management was very particular about tiny detail which explains the really fluffy towels, the amazing bedding and pillows, and the neatly arranged in-room facilities.

The view from the Astana Wing is breath-taking.

However, the hotel itself isn’t without flaws, especially when it still depended a lot on the older Putri Wing (for breakfast and pool facilities) which is in dire need of an upgrade.

The hotel is quite a steal when it comes to pricing because the Riverside Majestic Hotel Astana Wing is in the centre of Kuching City itself.

BOOKING A ROOM AT THE ASTANA WING

As I mentioned above, only my room was complimentary.

Since I decided to ask my sisters to tag along, I had to book another hotel room for them.

The manager of the hotel, Mr Patrick told me that they had a policy whereby direct booking through their hotel website would come with a ‘best price guarantee’.

I decided to give that guarantee a try, and the rates are indeed cheaper by a couple of Malaysian Ringgit on the official booking site.

However, if you do not believe me, try comparing the rates at HotelsCombined.com with the ones offered by the hotel website yourself.
