When Carissa was about to be delivered, I decided to install an additional water heater at home because whoever was to stay with us (it was yet to be decided then), would want to bath using hot water in the morning, especially since water heaters are quite common and cheap nowadays.

I already have another water heater installed in the master bedroom’s bathroom, and it has served me well since I got it in 2008.

Back then, when I wanted to purchase the water heater, I accepted the “tauke’s” suggestion, and went for an unknown brand.

The water heater then was cheap (less than RM200) as it was less known, and it had a pump. The brand was BeeBest.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WATER HEATER BRANDS

The shop owner explained that what differs from each and every water heater brand is the design of the water heater, but what’s inside remains almost similar.

He further claimed that all water heaters come from a few factories, and that Panasonic and BeeBest shared the same factiry.

Not sure if he is right, but well, I trusted him then, and I had no reason not to trust him now.  His previous suggestion had been serving me well until today.

CHOOSING A GOOD WATER HEATER

A water heater that comes with a pump is important. Then, I was then staying in an apartment, and the pump helped increase water pressure.

A good water heater also needs to come with a circuit breaker. It should be something standard in all water heaters now. This circuit breaker is for safety purposes, ensuring that the heater functions well and that you do not get electrocuted while using it.

While such incidents are rare, I did read about it happening a in the papers.

A good a water heater must also be very silent. I think this feature is key to some people out there. I am not so particular about sound, but since it came with a low noise pump, why not?

Anyway, fast forward to 2015, BeeBest is now very pricey, and is known as one of the best water heaters around, and I have one unit at home as proof.

From 2008 until today, the unit has performed well, heating water for me without fail.

GETTING A NEW WATER HEATER

Now, since I wanted to buy a new water heater, I was hoping to get the same brand but it seems that the price of the water heater had increased.

That had caused me to ask the same “tauke” of available options, and he gladly recommended JOven.

Since I’ve seen how a water heater is being installed, I was convinced this time I could save RM100 plus and do it myself, and hence why I spent a good 2 hours trying to fix the water heater.

I followed the instructions provided and and after a lot of sweat and trying to make it look nice, the water heater is fully functional now in the second bathrooom.

Installation of the water heater wasn’t hard, but the longer time taken was mainly due to the wiring clips I used which refused to be nailed into the cement.

Nonetheless, after switching on the heater, I’d like to note is this water heater seems to be a lot more noisier than the previous one I had, and it seems(or looks) bulkier.  Despite that however, the safety features are working well, and it is serving me well so far (after seven months).

Well, perhaps the title of this blog post might be a little misleading but I bet you did learn a thing or two about water heaters and how to choose one.
