I recently added the YI Dome Camera X to the security system of my home.
I’ve already installed two Yi Outdoor 1080p CCTVs which worked really well, but thought I should give a 360 degree camera like the Dome Camera X a try.
That said, I ordered a YI Dome Camera X and had it installed recently.
WHAT IS THE YI DOME CAMERA X
Like the YI Outdoor 1080p CCTV, the Yi Dome Camera X is a security monitoring camera.
It uses the same YI Home App which has been working fantastic with my previous two YI Outdoor 1080P.
Like the YI Outdoor 1080P, the YI Dome Camera comes equipped with night vision, instant notification, and the ability for you to hear and communicate via the app and camera.
The similarities between the two however stop there.
The YI Dome Camera X covers a larger range as it can turn 340 degrees horizontally and 95 degrees vertically.
It also comes with a motion and tracking system, hence enabling it to follow humans or moving objects. This makes for an interesting surveillance camera especially since it has an AI-based capability which enables it to differentiate from humans and pets.
Lastly it also has the best in its class night vision and uses less bandwidth with files stored as MP4 in the memory card.
The Dome Camera works best with YI’s optional cloud storage, but since I don’t want to spend on the services, I opted to use a Micro SD Card. The camera can support up to 128GB Micro SD Card.
PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH THE DOME CAMERA
I personally like the clarity of the images from the YI Dome Camera. Images appear clear and crisp, and the wide 340 degree angle means plenty of area is covered.
On top of that, I can also control the camera’s movement from my phone, widening what I can see and observe from the app.
At times, the motion tracking ability of the camera seems works well, but I noticed that it does get confused when there’s more than one object it detects.
That said, the motion sensor works, but it does have its limitations. I am made to understand you can install up to eight cameras and sync it together so that you can track the movement of an object, but since I only have one, I can’t comment on this feature.
As for the YI Home App, I think the app works very well. The app also hardly disconnects from the camera, making it very reliable.
If there is a power outage, the camera connects itself immediately to the app within seconds. This ability is great because my previous Mijia CCTV was horrible and always disconnected itself from the app.

The Yi Dome is available on numerous online stores but Shopee was where I got mine.
